Summer Adventure - Smith Rock Camping
For the better part of six months, our Navigators have been learning about wilderness survival and first aid. Their skills were put to the test on their trip to Smith Rock this past weekend. The boys encountered an woman carrying another woman who was injured on their hike up to Smith Rock. They were able to make a splint to support her injury and help her make it more easily back down the mountain to their car. A TrailMan is helpful to those in need.
Later, while collecting kindling, the boys encountered a rattlesnake. With the help of their leaders, they caught and killed the rattler and then skinned, cooked and ate it. A TrailMan is careful while in the wild, but also makes use of the resources around him.
The adventure deepened their relationships with God, with each other, and with nature. A worthy walk, indeed!
The verse they focused on for the weekend: "The Lord will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God, that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never the bottom."
